my new photo site
i decided to get back into photography and taking more pictures. i have a really expensive digital SLR with all sorts of fancy lenses, etc that I left sitting at home - i didn’t want to haul the damn thing around everywhere on our current road trip. i am trying to minimize the crap in my life and was wondering why i really needed all that fancy photography equipment to take pictures - well, i don’t. i have an amazing quality camera on my droid incredible and decided that it was all i would take pictures with on our trip. i’ve had some rainy days here in Minneapolis visiting with family and received an email from Flickr that my “pro” account had expired so instead of renewing it i began looking around for other options. I decided on a 14 day trial from SmugMug and just uploaded some trip photos. So far I really like their site - i realize there are free services out there but i rather pay for a quality service with great features than put up with mediocre services paid for by advertisements. Flickr was a good service but i really like the organization and feel of SmugMug - not to mention that it’s family owned which is always nice to support.

I happen to work in a job where I can get a smart phone like the HTC Droid Incredible for “work”. I know I’m a little geeky but this phone really is badass. One of the things I am most excited about besides it being really fast and having a lot of great features is the 8MP camera - it is like having a high quality camera with me all of the time to capture moments I otherwise would probably not have been able to since most things in life that you want to take a picture of happen when you aren’t carrying a camera! I look forward to posting more pics and getting back into daily photography.
Furthermore, what makes this device a minimalist tool is that you can do so many things with one single device which is a great way to minimize the crap you carry around and simplify your life while doing those things that still matter to you. It’s a great match to go with my Dell Mini 2100 laptop as I can also use it connect to the Internet via broadband when I need something more substantial though I gotta say that I could probably do most things right from the Incredible which is pretty damn cool.
