I am utterly and completely disgusted by reading headlines about cutting education pretty much everywhere in the United States while the government continues to spend billions of tax payers dollars a week funding unjust wars. The death of Osama bin Laden just fuels this madness and we will spend even more “defending” our freedom. Freedom? It’s eerie to see dystopian themes coming to life while the majority of the country is pacified on reality TV. One day we will wake up and wonder how this happened. When a country spends more on war and corporate bailouts than it does on education, it certainly says a lot about it’s future. Dumb down the sheep even more and they won’t notice how they willingly give up more control. Sometimes I feel like a stranger in my own country screaming into an empty room. Our elections exist to give the appearance of choice. Barack Obama is an excellent example. Hell, I fell for “hope” and “change”. Always wanting to believe in what this country stands for and that this time it will be different but the reality is it isn’t. The worst part is wanting to do something but not knowing what to do. I know this is part of the system’s design so I continue to search for like minds - others who see through the filters. My only true power is my own actions. I try to do small things each day in my corner of the world to make it better. Maybe if we all do that then one day it will be and in the mean time it is a bit better for the person you showed loved and compassion to because one thing we have against the machine is that we outnumber them.
Vandana Shiva: Understanding the Corporate Takeover
“The American people should see that corporations have abandoned them long ago,” says scientist, environmentalist, and food justice activist Dr. Vandana Shiva, named one of the seven most influential women in the world by Forbes magazine. “The people will have to rebuild democracy as a living democracy.”
Dr. Shiva has been fighting corporate takeover in every area in her native India, combating a nuclear plant one week and patented, genetically modified seeds another. She joins Laura in studio to advise American activists how they can fight the merging of corporations and government here at home and around the world.

I want! want! want! want! want! - The official motto of mainstream culture. stop the madness and stop wanting. where does it end? it doesn’t. people with the iPhone 3 want a iPhone 4 and people with a iPhone 4 want the new white iPhone 4 and then after they get the new white iPhone 4 the novelty of that will wear off in a few days and then they will start wanting the iPhone 5 and thus you spend your life wanting, wanting, wanting because the system of consumerism is designed to never be enough.
just stop.
